Solar panels at Twin Hills Charter Middle School

Twin Hills Union School District completed a very exciting project the summer of 2011. Both Apple Blossom Elementary School and Twin Hills Charter Middle School are 100% solar powered. In addition to the power generating structures, both campuses have solar powered electrical vehicle charging stations, the first at a public school in California! The structures are dual purpose, providing the structure for the solar panels and protection to students below.

Multiple single post canopies where custom designed to have a plant like aesthetic, affectionately referred to as solar flowers. The project was completely funded through government bonds applied for by Persinger Architects. This project helps put Sonoma County schools at the forefront of sustainable design, helping encourage and teach the importance of sustainability to the next generation. In addition, the solar installation is being integrated into the science curriculum at both campuses, giving students a hands on lesson in solar energy.
