In addition to our pride in craftsmanship, we feel honored to work with our client base. We work with some of the most prominent and successful Architecture firms in Northern California and take a great deal of pride in our clientele, performance and communication. The majority of our projects stem from past performance that has developed into long term relationships. Simply put, we are repeat team members for multiple clients’ design teams.

We are licensed in both California and Nevada and maintain active participation in numerous industry organizations that require continuing education and keep us on the cutting edge of technology and engineering, among them; American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), The United States Green Building Council (USGBC), American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE), The American Institute of Architects (AIA) and The Construction Specifications Institute (CSI).

One of the ways we achieve a superior service is by communication and coordination. Better said, we specialize in “active” communication and coordination. The role of a design team member is not to wait for someone to ask, but to provide. There are no secrets with 15000 Inc. We will proactively do what is necessary to accurately coordinate and communicate with the other design team members.

Company Profile:

For 36 years, ZFA Structural Engineers has collaborated with architects and school districts to help build better schools. With an unwavering commitment to excellence, ZFA offers its clients innovative, practical design solutions for their projects. The company has fully integrated offices in Santa Rosa, Sacramento, and San Francisco, with a staff of 35 people, including 13 licensed Structural Engineers and 10 licensed Professional Engineers.

Engineering of Elementary, Middle, and High School facilities has been an integral part of ZFA’s work since inception. The firm’s work on education facilities accounts for over $150M in construction per year. As a result of ZFA’s expertise in public school design, the office of the Division of the State Architect (DSA) has ranked the firm as a structural plan‐check consultant under previous and current contracts.

The design and construction of new school campuses and the retrofit and revitalization of existing school campuses require special skills that ZFA has perfected. ZFA principals commit to each project through completion, engaging in a proactive management approach. Knowing that communication is key, ZFA staff not only discuss details during planning, scheduling, and coordination, but often utilize pre‐design meetings with DSA to establish a design methodology early in the process, helping to preempt end‐of‐design mitigation. ZFA also believes in direct access and observation, coupled with dedicated construction support staff that can perform immediate design modifications often required to meet the rapidly changing demands of construction.

Sustainable design is another important part of ZFA’s philosophy. The firm currently includes 11 LEED™ Accredited Professionals and has successfully used cutting edge building materials and alternative building methods on several projects, including schools conforming to the California High Performance School (CHPS) Best Practices guidelines.

The result is ZFA’s excellent reputation for delivery of on‐time, on‐budget, creative, and well‐organized construction documents that provide a complete scope of work and, consequently, credible construction costs.
